Process Economics Program Report 30A
Published: Jul-70
This report is a supplement to Process Economics Program Report No. 30. The original report included the recovery of benzene, toluene, and mixed xylenes, called BTX aromatics, from catalytic reformate, as well as the conversion of toluene to benzene by hydrodealkylation. Designs were given for three extraction processes--namely, with sulfolane, N-methylpyrrolidone/ethylene glycol (NMP/EG), and formyl morpholine (FM). Limited treatment was given to other processes.
Besides updating the earlier work, the present report
treats five more processes in depth. These are disproportionation of toluene,
transalkylation of toluene with C9+ aromatics, dealkylation of pyrolysis
gasoline, and extraction of BTX from pyrolysis gasoline by sulfolane and FM.
In addition, a limited investigation of the alkylation of toluene was made,
which eliminated this process from serious consideration.
